Sedona Story Ideas

Experience night in Red Rock Country

Sedona takes its night skies seriously and was designated an International Dark Sky Community in 2014. Although we’ve done our part to protect the night, we invite our visitors to do the same by reducing their light pollution and considering planning their stay around the lunar calendar (e.g. arriving on a new moon, researching when the moon rises). There is nothing like seeing the Milky Way dance above our red rock landscape.

Key highlights to include:

  • Hotels with stargazing tours: Many Sedona hotels now offer weekly star parties with an astronomer and a high-power telescope and/or private tours that can be organized through the hotel concierge.
  • Sedona Stargazing Tours: This tour operator offers two scheduled stargazing tours every night throughout the year.
  • Hire a guide: Sedona is home to a diversity of tour operators that now offer night sky experiences, which include nighttime jeep rides or hikes under the stars.

All Sedona has to offer without a car

Sit back and let Sedona take the keys – you can now travel to and within Sedona without needing your own passenger vehicle. A network of private, public, and human-powered transportation options is available that can get you from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to Sedona, where you can then access our signature trailheads and business services.

Key highlights to include:

How does Sedona impact your brain chemistry

According to MIT-trained scientist Pete Sanders, author of The Free Soul Method, simply being within the natural landscape of Sedona has been found to reduce stress levels by relaxing the limbic system. The reds, greens and blues of the environment's color palette have inspired optimism in humans for generations and the rock features that define the geologic landscape include upflow sites that help you soar to a higher perspective and inflow sites that assist with reaching meditative states.

Key highlights to include:

  • Start your day with Sunrise Yoga on Airport Mesa
  • Test your mental fortitude by playing two days of golf with a meditation in between - you will either play better the next day or be too relaxed to focus on your swing.
  • Activate the creative right side of your brain by attending an arts class at locations like Sedona Arts Center which offers a robust class schedule, Rovang Ceramics for a pottery class, or the Melting Point for a glass blowing class.
  • Simply enjoy the view from your hotel as you prepare to leave Sedona and join the real world again, refreshed with a new perspective.
  • Will you accept the challenge? Come find out for yourself!

Experience the bounty of the Verde Valley AVA

An unexpected feature of the Sedona experience is the proximity to the bounty of wineries that operate within the Verde Valley American viticulture Area (AVA). Designated in 2021, the Verde Valley AVA currently includes nearly 30 wineries offering a diversity of grape varietals all grown within the state of Arizona.

Key highlights to include:

  • Elevation in the Verde Valley transitions between lower hot summer Mediterranean (3,000 feet) and higher cold semi-arid climate zones (5,500 feet).
  • More than 40 grape varietals have been planted, including white grapes like Malvasia Bianca, Viognier, Chardonnay and Vermentino, and red grapes like Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Tempranillo.
  • Verde Valley AVA is one of three AVAs in Arizona, in addition to the Willcox AVA and Sonoita/Elgin AVA.
  • Page Springs and Cornville: A 30-minute drive from Sedona to nearby Page Springs and Cornville takes you along Oak Creek to five wineries including D.A. Ranch, Javelina Leap, Oak Creek Vineyards, Page Springs Cellars and Cove Mesa.
  • The activity you deserve after a hike: What better way to unwind after hitting one of our 200 trails than relaxing by Oak Creek with a charcuterie board and glass of Arizona wine.
  • Annual event: The best way to experience all the flavors of the Verde Valley AVA is to attend the annual Verde Valley Wine Festival each spring.
